Hi

Got this quote from Marx computers of Eur 523

-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Amd Sempron 2200+ (1.5ghz)
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 300W Micro-ATX Case with front LED
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 128MB DDR-RAM
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Video (64mb) + Sound + Lan + USB2 on Board
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 40GB Hard Drive UDMA100, 7200rpm
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Floopy Drive
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 16x48x DVD-Rom
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 200W Speakers
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Extra DVD-R/RW
-&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Extra 256MB memory PC-333 (2700)

They also do Epson Printers for about 98 -130 Eur

I tried Komplett but dont like their customer service and
they dont have any 'front office' so its not worth
the hassle should I order something wrong on their website

Dont want to build it myself as more than likely will feck it up and not that technically minded

All I want it for is internet, email, and burning/ copying DVD's, Music, and images

I have windows xp so dont need operating system and also
use broadband so I dont need modem

Also print about 2-4 pictures a month

Ask about a Pentium 4 but it was close to 200 quid and
was told its only advantage is video compression???
Also asked about athlon64 but was told they are on
the way out

They have a 1 year returns which is ok

Anyone got any comments is it worth it or should I make any modifications as I am looking to buy soon??

Is it better to build than go to Dell ?

Cheers

seems reasonable enough, no monitor, OS or software included, I assume you have these already.

Building a PC is relatively easy, installing the OS I found more difficult, though a broadband connection makes it easier downloading latest drivers etc.

I built my own PC about 3 yrs ago, similar to yourself I wanted a budget machine. Not sure if I saved any money in the end, but probably got a better spec for the same money. At least it's still running :) In general I would say people who build their own machines are enthuasists and/or looking for a high spec machine. Regular/budget users tend to buy budget machines from established sellers.

Will a 40Gb hard drive be big enough if you copy DVD's, images and music?

Do you really need a floppy drive?
What about firewire (if you ever get into digital video)
Make sure you've enough USB sockets.
What about wireless?

Make sure your computer will work with two different types of RAM (128mb & 256mb). I've a vague memory that some chips won't work unless both memory chips are the same (ie 256+ 256). XP will work better with 512mb RAM anyway.

Bleary,

Interesting link

Do you know is it possible to get a price from the wizard for a configuration with no monitor ?

Notice there is a serious reduction in price if you select 1 year collect & return warranty. Any bulk buyers out there with experience of failure rates on Dell desktops ?

( Funny how a lot of the motherboard makers provide integrated firewire support but very few of the box sellers seem to offer such motherboards )

Have any of you looked at trying to build a system based on

[broken link removed] ?
