First of all please forgive me but i am as thick as a ditch i got married last year yet didnt take husbands surname, and didn't realise that i needed to let the social welfare know only found out today when husband went in to make a claim as he is on a 3day wk and i am on disability allowance due to long term illness i am in a terrible state here, will my D.A now be cut or will i lose it alltogether and will i lose housing benefits as well, i really dont know what to do and am worried sick i am frightened that i will be asked to pay back money etc that i do not have, i have had bad experiences with the social welfare in the past when i first claimed D.A a few years ago i was treated so badly i had a breakdown over it and am terrified to approach them now about the fact i was so thick as not to know i had to let them know can anyone please advise? thankyou and sincere apologies for me being so stupid i genuinely didnt know

Your DA should have been re-assessed when you married as your husband was working (it's a means tested payment).

It's likely that now that your husband has made a claim, your own claim will be re-assessed and SW will be in touch with you. If you have to repay money, it doesn't have to be in one amount, it can be deducted from future payments.

I'm not sure what housing benefit you're on (rent supplement?), but yes, that should have been re-assessed too when you married as your husband was working full time. If it is rent supplement, call into your CWO and have a chat with him/her.
