Hey, just wondering could anyone give a rough guideline on how 2 go about manually installing a Netopia 2247 through ethernet connection?? cd says os not compatible but if ur certain it is, which I am, then to manually install.

log on to the router via its IP address and internet explorer.
connect cable and then try

192.168.1.254

as the web address. should give you a welcome page or menu and you can take it from there.

a lot of the eircom ones tend to be the same.

if that is not it you can find it by opening a dos promt. (start - run-cmd) and type ipconfig /all
at the c:\ prompt.

the gateway ip is the router address if memory serves me.

Had the same problem as yourself - cannot understand why eircom would issue software which is not compatible with Windows Vista.

Got as far as that screen and ended up finding that the CD had installed enough software for me to be able to connect to the Internet.

I find that these CD's are of no benefit in most instances where an ethernet connection is used. You will need drivers for a USB connection to your broadband device, but nothing else. I have set up many connections without running the installation CD and everything works fine. All Eircom broadband connections have the same username and password so no set up is necessary for their service - the modem usually comes ready to go. Other providers will usually need a specific username and password, but all other settings should be preset.
