I currently have a lump sum of 19k to invest. i don't know wether I should pay it off my mortgage of 114,000 or take a chance on the bank. Help!

Its a tracker variable 2.4% mortgage of 114000. I know its a great rate but am not keen to invest money.Talked to a BOI guy and he reckoned i should put it in a 4-5 year lump investment he couldnt give exact rate on this all he could say was that the inital investment was garaunteed and things can only improve with equities etc and it would be a good move. Any advice?

2.4% is a very low rate.

At such a low rate you are much better financially off saving that paying off more of your mortgage.

The best lump sum rate is Investec for a 6 month term deposit at 5.58%. About 55,000 EUR are protected by the UK Govt.
