Lowering height of tables - can a carpenter do this?

Hi
I've been given 2 lovely end tables, high quality, by a relative who's renovating and no longer needs them.

I love them but they're about 4 inches too tall and stick out like sore thumbs. Is it possible for a carpenter/handyman to saw about 4 ins off the legs - and make sure they're steady and even?

I didnt realise how tall they were when I accepted them and I'd hate to part with them - can't afford such quality stuff myself!

Anyone any advice please?

Cheers

Take 1 quality saw
Use a tape measure to mark off 4" (you could put a piece of coloured tape on so you can clearly see the line.
Use saw to remove the offending 4"
Sand with a fine grade sandpaper

Alternatively ask any one who is in any way handy....no real need for a carpenter (except if they have patterned feet)

Many thanks, Sam!
We dont even possess a saw and I wouldnt let accident-prone hubby within an ass's roar of one!

Sounds simple enough though - i'll ask around and see what can be done. Thanks for giving me hope :)

No, measure from the top of the tables (or the underside of the top of the tables, and mark off about 4 inches from the ends of the legs. Then the table will be level
