I know I have missed the deadline to top up pension in UK but what I am looking for help on is finding out my NI from the 1980's. Unfortunately I dont remember the address I lived at when I received my NI number, worked off line a bit and also on unemployment benefit back n the day. Tried the web site GOV.UK and filled in forms and sent to Individuals Case Worker @HMRC in NE England BX9 1AN in September 2024 but never heard anything back. Any help or guidance much appreciated

If you are able to drive to Newry, you might get more help in person.

Can you try some prompts re address - what was your local pub? Did you get a bus to work? Nearest Tube or train station?

Were you registered with a GP? Did you ever have hospital treatment?

What unemployment office did you register with?

Even pull up google maps & see if anything triggers a memory.

Not sure what you mean by "off line"

In the 80's they gave out a lot of temporary numbers.
They all started with "TN" and had your date of birth and m/f for male & female.
All records of temporary numbers were obliterated

A handy way of knowing if you had a full NI number is whether you remember ever having a National Insurance card like this. If you don't remember getting one of these, then its likely you only had a temporary number

Off line is where contractor withheld 20% (I think) and supposedly paid on your behalf. Back then as a young lad we weren’t too fussed
