Anyone able to recommend covering for wall at back of hob as we don't want to use tiles? It is quite a small area to be covered so would probably not be able to get a tiler to do such a small job in any case. Needs to be easy to keep clean and to be able to take the heat from the hob also.

A piece of quartz worktop? For a small size like that you might find one of the quartz places might have an offcut. You should just be able to glue it to the wall yourself if it can sit down onto the existing worktop.

we followed the granite up the splashback. Counter, breakfast bar and splashback all granite. Looks well

We asked our installer to use the same Formica as counter, just cut thinner, we used the whole way around under the upper cabinets and looked great for fraction of cost of glass or tiles.

That might be a little risky depending on the hob? Our last house had a very large gas ring at the back which I suspect would have done damage to Formica over time.

Not a bad idea at all but trying to get a carpenter to do it will be another matter in light of plug cut outs etc. being time consuming. We already have an upstand so it would fit in nicely.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas everyone.
