Looking for a decent drill/screwdriver

I am a pretty useless DIYer but I was rehanging a door the other day and whilst trying to screw in 12 screws with a rubbish manual screwdriver it dawned on me that perhaps I should at least own something which would put the screws in in a couple of 1min rather than 10mins.

I know nowt about power tools, but can anyone recommend a decent one for the novice? I am thinking that instead of just having a power screwdriver it might be best to ask for advice on a drill too, as I do sometimes attempt to hang the odd photo or print too !!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Depends on how much you want to spend and how often you'll use it
Id recommend a makita but it could set you back over 100 and then a set of bits on top. Lidl or aldi do bits sets every now and again that aren't bad

nothing wrong with the ones in aldi or lidl for diy.. great value for money

Thanks for the replies.

It will be rarely used, but always handy to have around, so I might check out Lidl next time they have them for sale.

RMCF altho I'm in the same class of rarely doing DIY I decided to fork out a few extra bob more on a decent drill. I got a Bosch and a Black and Decker set of good drill bits. I think the whole lot cost me about 60.00 from B&Q. Have to say it's great, and far less fiddly than the cheap one it replaced.

get as high a voltage rating on the motor/battery as you can within your budget.

I have an 18v black and decker one from Woodies which is great - make sure it's a variable speed trigger.

this bosch one looks good : [broken link removed]

Totally agree!!

Generally anything less that 12V is not up to much, it just cannot develop the power.
