Lone parent returning home

Hi!

Just wondering could someone help me out with the following please.
This maybe a bit long winded so please bare with me.

My sister went to oz a few years ago on a holiday met a guy and ended up staying out there. They had a child together 3 years ago. They have recently broken up and she is returning home in the next few weeks with the child alone.
She is moving back in with our parents when she comes home but just wondering what is she entitled to? I would think she would be entitled to lone parents allowance but just wondering about rent allowance is this an option. In time she would hope to return to work even part-time, how would this affect things?

Thanks in advance.

Your sister may qualify for One Parent Family Payment - it's means-tested, so any income/savings she has or will have may be taken into account (there are some disregards for part-time work).

She may qualify for Rent Supplement if she moves from home and rents a property - it wouldn't be payable while she's at home.
She could also apply for Child Benefit.

Have a look at www.welfare.ie for more information.

What if the parents were to charge their daughter for renting a room (€6,000 tax free to parents.. extra in rent allowance for daughter) .. Parents could then put this rent, say €100 / week into a kitty for food etc.
Is there anything wrong with this arrangement ?
