If a social welare recipiant has a loan repaid by a relative, what impact will that have on SW claim. The visa bill is 8k. What rules apply? I cannot find any information on SW site or Citizens advice other than you can have 20K savings and then your SW is reduced by so much above that threshold, but no mention of SW recipiant with loan outstanding that they now cannot afford to repay. Any advice appreciated.

presumable your talking about a means-tested payment. It would make no difference to the SW payment as the money was not given to you as a "gift" and you can show it as having being used to repay a debt. Anyway, it's under the savings threshold for means even it you did recieve it as a gift adn held onto it.

Thanks Welfarite for this advice. The visa bill is 8k so the monthly repayments are hefty enough for someone with a complete change in circumstance. The lodgement and visa bill payment will be made the same day and will show up on the current account. My relative was worried that this would affect her means tested claim, she is stressed understandably at present. Family just want to assist. So we will go ahead.
