Living in roi but can i go bankrupt in uk

Please I would be very grateful if anybody could help with the following query. My partner and I are in serious trouble with our mortgage in the Republic of Ireland and there is no way out, we have tried everything. We own approx €400,000 and are in neg equity. Our relationship is in serious difficulty over this and will probably end. I have been told I can apply for personal bankruptcy in the U.K even though I have always lived here in the Republic of Ireland and this is where the property is. I cannot imagine this to be true and would be grateful if anybody can clarify. We cannot afford legal help. Thank you so much

Mercury Blue, you can avail of bankruptcy in the UK but you would need to move there to live in order to avail of it. You cannot live in Ireland and apply to go bankrupt in the UK.
