Hi,
I have decided to move to New Zealand as I have always wanted to do the travel thing. I notify my employer yesterday of my intention to resign. They didn't want me to leave and yesterday they approached me with the option of me continuing to work for the company while I was in NZ. We already have eworkers but none as far away as NZ. Once I have internet access I can do the job I am doing now from anywhere.

The offer is appealing. From a HR perspective, are there things I should know like?

1) Do I still pay tax
2) Should employer buy me equipment?
3) Are there any other issues associated with this?

You really need to take tax advice from a New Zealand advisor who is used to dealing with international issues.

Your employer may find that they may have legal obligations to operate a NewZeland tax withholding on your salary if you are an employee carrying out duties of employment in NewZealand, or there may be other issues also, such as having to pay Znew Zeland Social Security, if you become tax resident there.

There may be advantages to being self-employed or setting up a company in NewZealand, but you would need to get specific advice for these scenarios taking into account NewZeland tax rules.

However, these are really issues for your employer as to whether to operate NewZeland withholding, but you need to know yourself what your personal tax obligations will be there.

lucky sod!

I think the issue may lie in how long you intend to be there. If it's permanent you will pay tax in NZ. You will be effectively self employed there in such an instance.
