Limited Company Director, Eligible for Job Seekers Benefit

Hello,

Just a quick question, I'm a PAYE worker who has started a limited company within the past few months.

The business is not trading yet, will not be for the next 2-3 months.

My intention was to keep working full time while working on the business.

It now seems as though my paid employment may end in the next month.

My question is whether being a company owner/director precludes me from being eligible for Job Seekers Benefit (I would otherwise be eligible).

Hopefully I will be able to find alternate employment in the meantime but if not I'd be keen to know if this is a possibility.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It depends on your previous PRSI contributions and PRSI class. If you are in full time PAYE employment you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply.

I have been in full time PAYE employment for several years so I should be fine from that point of view.

Any idea who I should contact to find out for sure?

Thanks

It's based on your previous two year's contributions, the only way to get a definitive answer is to ring your local social welfare office, they'll be able to clarify your entitlements.
