Liable for tax on BIK for private health insurance?

I currently am attempting to claim taxback. I've been successful so far but on the issue of Private Health Insurance (namely VHI), I've hit a stumbling block.

My employer pays for my private health insurance on my behalf. So I understand that it will be taxed as a benefit in kind and I am entitled to claim a tax credit equal to 20% of the gross amount. However, my payslips indicate that my BIK is 0. I contacted the revenue and they asked me to send in my payslips as I may owe the revenue tax!

So I'm confused? Do I owe tax? Am I missing something? I doubt my employer is incorrect as they employ a payroll services company.

I have read other topics on BIK on the revenues and this site but can anyone quickly clarify what I'm missing or misunderstanding please?

I think your first port of call should be your payroll department - ask them what is included in your payslips, and about the medical insurance they are paying.

Thanks for the response Domo and I guess you're right. I was hesitant to contact them in case there was something I'm overlooking plus the fact that they're not really that responsive and I'm currently out on sick leave so trying to boost income with taxback!
