Leo Varadkar thinks there needs to be a long term plan to ensure economic freedom

Subtle point, he says that “Increasing general taxation is not the solution to all of our social problems and infrastructural deficits and increasing it too much creates a problem in itself.”
This seems to leave open the possibility of compulsory pensions, compulsory community medical insurance, a levy on this, a charge on that ... all of which will still make a fair dent in worker's pockets and imo could create "a problem in itself."

It's easy to be in favour of low taxes, the hard part is the other side of the equation - limitations on government spending, on how to curb its insatiable appetite for the money of citizens.

I like the quote; "He said it is up to the Government to ensure that people are not “exploited in work, working without reward or making money for others without personal advantage.”"
Making money for others without personal advantage could mean getting screwed by your employer or/and getting too much of what you earn taken from you in the form of general taxation.
