Leaving Employment/Self Employed

I am leaving my current job this Friday to set up my own company. What this means is I will have no salary for two to three months and my partner (married) will be stretched to cover mortgage and other household bills. So I want to ensure that we are collecting all the pennies owing to us from tax/social welfare and indeed grants (I am not entitled to all the obvious ones). All advise and suggestions will be very welcome. Regards

I don't know when you will be "officially" deemed self employed but if you are still PAYE for a while but not earning then you may be able to claim tax back in respect of unused tax credits via a [broken link removed].
