Leaving Cert Art

A friend of mine has a daughter going into 5th Year and wants to do Art but cannot do it in her own school due to the timetable.

She was given a place in an evening class in Hewitt College but yesterday was told that the place might not be there.

Does anyone else know of other schools who offer this, she rang Bruce College but they only offer Applied Maths as an after school option.

She is based in Cork
 
What about getting an art teacher to provide lessons from time to time but studying/practicing on her own?

You shouldn't underestimate the amount of work involved in this course; at the very least I would expect a weekly grind would be necessary to cover the Art History portion of the syllabus, as well as regular lessons on the other aspects; life drawing, still life, design, and other add-ons like ceramics, printing etc. There is much more to the Leaving Cert Art syllabus than people imagine. It might be possible to join some adult oriented evening classes to cover some of the practical aspects?
 
Fair enough and I guess theres a reasonable cost for materials etc. Depends on how motivated the student is I guess. Many moons ago when I was in school, we were allowed to go to another school for science which wasn't an offer for us. However it meant dropping music in order to do so.
 
Her daughter loves Art so I am sure she would be willing to do the hard graft as she will have to do this for other subjects.

Just because it is Art I cannot see why you would think she would do any less work on Art as Physics, etc

Do you know anywhere in Cork where she could do this?

1:1 would be very expensive and also I know from my time many moons ago that knowledge of how the leaving cert exam is marked, etc is 99% of the battle rather than knowledge.
 
Has she contacted any of the community colleges specialising in adult education? They're often geared towards returning adults who want to sit/resit their Leaving Cert. I don't have any names off the top of my head, but maybe one of the art colleges like the Crawford might be able to help, or www.nightcourses.com
 
There is also the Stiofain Naofa college, they might be able to point her in the right direction.
