Leap yr extra working day - not incl. in mthly wage

For weekly paid employees, every seven years, there will be a week 53 payroll and Revenue allow an extra week's Tax Credits. This used to be the situation years ago, but I don't know how monthly or fortnightly paid staff fair out.

During months that there are 30 days do you get less pay than months which have 31 days? I don't think so.

True, but that is a slightly different situation, which is that your annual salary is divided by 12 to get an even pay per month which is easier on companies and employees.

The leap year means that you are working an extra day without pay.
Having said that, I have never heard of a salaried employee getting extra pay for the extra day in a leap year.

I use to work in a big payroll department as we use to get the query quite often.

To caculate a daily rate we divided yearly amount by 365.25 so really we are getting an extra 1/4 days pay when its not a leap year.

Assuming it was a Monday to Friday job I'd expect the divisor to be 261.25.

No the divisor is always 365.25.

To caculate a 2 weekly pay for a monday to friday ee €50,000/365.25x14 its €1916.49. If we were to do it your way €50,000/261.25x10 its only €1913.87 so I'm happy with the 365.25 method.

Now if I'm to be deducted a day for example it the number of hours per day that deducted ie: 7 hours

I get paid for 14 days every fortnight i.e. my salary divided by 365x14 this year they are dividing by 366 first so we get paid slightly less for each day.

I'm just wondering if anyone else paid monthly received an extra day's wage?

A year equals 365.25 days.I heard some guy moaning about this on Today FM this evening...greed and out rageous wage demands are wrecking our economy.

My contract states a yearly amount this is what I get per year no matter how many days are in it. It drives me mad seeing people asking for an extra day this year i don't see them handing back a days pay each year for three years.

I'd just like to point out that my question was just simply if anyone had received an extra day wage this month, i.e I didn't know how it worked and half heard it been discussed on radio.

I do think that all of a sudden individuals are playing the 'stop being greedy card' 'how far more can the economy go' bla bla bla.
I'd like to know how many people have turned down a wage increase in the last 4 months.

I don't remember employers looking for anything back when that 9/11 day of mourning took place.

No, but it doesn't stop the Small Firms Association representitive (on six one today)reminding us that we all got a day off 6 and a half years ago. Just because there was a call to have an extra bank holiday every 4 years :D

In 2006 we had 105 weekend days.

I don't remember companies complaining that their workforce was getting an extra day off in the year and asking for this Saturday to be worked...

Swings and round-abouts folks...
