Leaflet says €300 off gym membership, but not off what

Hi,

I was just wondering about the legality of this type of advertising. I regularly get leaflets in the door from the local gym stating they are offering €300 off the current membership price offer closing in 2 weeks. However the leaflet never states what the current membership price is and if you ring to ask they tell you to come in and they'll discuss what package would suit you best. How will you ever know that you really got a discount if they won't give prices on leaflet or over the phone?

It would be illegal for a shop to have a sale without giving you the original and discounted price. Does this not apply to items such as Gym membership?

Thanks, Aldaco.

They may be covering themselves by asking you to call down so that they can assess your needs regarding the different packages available. They are, as such, not refusing to give the information. But I'm only guessing. A call to the ODCA should clarify.
