Laying gravel directly on concrete path

I'd appreciate any advice on this matter thanks.

The back of my house faces North and consequently the area outside my back door doesn't see any sun at all at any time of year. It's regularly damp and seems to hold on to moisture/wet for ages. There are two steps leading from the path to the back door (approx 10-12 inches)

I'm considering laying a layer of gravel on top of the existing path to sort out this annoying problem - anyone done anything similar or have any advice? I suppose I could always deck it!!!

Well if it holds onto moisture for ages and you deck it, all you will have is a skating rink. I've put gravel on top of concrete with no problems.
