Hi,

This policy is up for renewal for €1,589.

I will need to have a caterac done (my second, a pre-existing condition) next year. In addition I see a lung consultant and do annual breathing / lung tests in Vincent’s Private.

Are there are any options to reduce cost and get equivalent cover?

The current plan you're on Health Secure Plus has full cover for a private room in a private hospital.
So there are 2 equivalent plans worth considering as alternative options. Details as follows;

1. Laya Care Select; price 1657pa; Hospital cover the same as before except no excess to pay on the first inpatient/day case in private or
hi-tech hospitals. This will cover your cataract procedure ie no excess to pay. Day to day cover is the same as before, 75% refund, upto a
max total of 2000 for certain benefits.

2. Laya Simplicity; price 1231pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered) + 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech
excess 100 x 2 max per year for all admissions regardless of the number. Day case excess 50 per procedure. Day to day cover included,
50% refund upto a max total of 7650. Note; the first 100 not allowed.
If you go for this plan, there is an excess to pay of 50 for your cataract procedure if its a day case procedure.

Can I ask you Snowyb concerning the Simplicity policy on the 50% refund the excess for a family is 200 euro. Is this made up of full doctors cost say 60 euro a visit or 50% . Example if we have 5 doctors visits at 60 euro each totaling 300 euro. Is this divided by 50% amounting to 150 euro meaning that I havent met my excess or have I met my excess by 100 euro and can claim 50% of the remaining 100 euro . Hope that makes sense.

The excess of 200 is subtracted at the end of the expenses calculation. So in your example, the 300 is divided by 50% first, amounting to 150.
This means you haven't met your 200 excess, unfortunately.

DaveEy,

Care Select plan will reduce to 1521 from 31st DEC 2018. You must have a special rate for Health Secure Plus.

There's no price change to Simplicity plan.
