Hello SnowyB!
Looking for advice please on best renewal options with Laya. Adult renewal is Assure Vitality 557.28 each and kids ( 3 No.) on Flex 175 Explorer. Pay for the first kid and the rest free! 333.85. No existing health concerns or issues. Would just like kids to have access to private hospital ( bons) in Cork. Thanks in advance. Ollie

Best option for 2 adults, with same hospital cover as before, Assure Protect plan. Price 502.80pa; price reduction applies from 1 April 2017.

Best option for the 3 children is Flex 125 Explore, price 319 applies from 1 April 2017. Bons Secours Cork is covered on this plan.

Yes, its the same offer, pay for the first child and the rest of the children are free.
Lower excess and cheaper price than their current plan.

Hi again snowyb,

Thought I'd reuse this thread as in a similar position to the OP (all renewals on 1/4/17):
  1. Adult renewal on Simplicity: Looking at your feedback, this would still be the best policy in its class again this year?
  2. Adult renewal on Flex 250 Explore: This individual has back issues/spine and is currently getting an MRI. outcome currently unknown. Seeing that laya will remove cover for the Blackrock Clinic and the Mater Private, may be considering a better policy for cover. Again would it be hard to beat Simplicity for this adult?
  3. Child renewal on Control 600 Secure: While I could use Flex 125 Explore, to get other kids on, this doesnt compare in terms of day to day costs which we have specially targeted todate
Thanks in advance
S.

suzie,

You're spot on. Simplicity is the best option for person 1 + 2 despite the increase.
Control 600 Secure is still best value for person 3, specifically regarding day to day costs. Note this will increase to 258 from 1 April 2017.

Sorry for piggybacking on this thread.

Can I make some general points first?

Snowyb, you are very generous with your time/effort.

Second, there are too many plans, I know this has been said before, but it should be repeated.

I ran my current Laya plan through the comparison tool on www.hia.ie, and it listed 17 comparators

2 VHI, 3 ILH, and a massive 12 comparator plans from Laya.

This is crazy.

Plus the Laya names are no help to the consumer:

"name excess value name"

Precision 600 total
Precision 600 Connect
Flex 500 Explore
Advantage 375 Explore

I have no frame of reference to help me compare.

It's painful, and bear in mind that I enjoy personal finances.

So, I don't like to do this, but instead of giving tips/info/advice, I will now humbly ask for advice.

Current plan = Laya Advantage 250 Explore, renewal 01.04.2017, 2 adults, 2 children, aged 2+6 on renewal.

Last year premium = 667 + 667 + 216 + 216 = 1,766 net

This year renewal = 2,094, increase of 328 or 18.6%.

The HIA lists our plan at 860.26, child = 274.95, total = 2270.42, but that does not match what Laya are stating in the renewal.

The HIA lists 17 comparators from 656 to 860.

What is important to us?

Not day-to-day GP cover.
Want to be able to go for day case in a private hosp [not based in Dublin]
Want a semi-private room in a private hosp

Thanks so much.

Protocol,

The nearest alternative plan to your current plan is 'Precision 300 Connect' price 833pa, price applicable from 1 April 2017.
[broken link removed]

The best value for the 2 children is 'Advantage 125 Explore' price 290(special offer, all children covered for 290pa)
[broken link removed]

Total family price; 833 + 833 + 290 = 1956pa ( there is also a 3% charge if you pay by installments, +57).

Lower priced adult plans would have a higher inpatient excess, this is the one off payment payable on admission to any private hospital for surgery
or treatment. It is NOT a nightly payment, but it is charged for each admission to a private hospital.
The excess on your current plan is 250, the alternative plan has an excess of 300 per admission to a private hospital.
There is no excess charged on admission to any public hospital.

Regards, Snowyb

Again, I wish to thank you.

Yes, that kids deal worked, thank you so much.

Just to let you know, the HIA price quoted to me for my Advantage 250 Explore plan is NOT the same as the Laya renewal.

2016 = 667
2017 = 791
2017 HIA = 860.26

The Laya call centre agent stated this is something to do with a discount that I got when I joined Laya in 2015. I'm not sure what she meant........

So the adults stayed on Advantage 250 Explore.

Anyways, my 2017 renewal is now 791+791+262 = 1843.40 versus what Laya were asking 2,094.

To summarise:

2016 paid = 1766
2017 renewal = 2094, up 328
2017 paid = 1843, up just 77

I'm back again!!!

We are still with Laya, Advantage 250 Explore since 2015.

Two adults, two children, 2019 renewal date 1-Apr 2019, children aged 4 and 8 on renewal.

In 2017 and 2018, based on Snowyb's advice, we moved the two children to Advantage 125 Explore.

2019 renewal = 895.10 + 895.10 + 273.30 + 0, second child free

I had a look on the HIA website, it's head-wrecking.

I had a look on Laya, and compared plans, and I see the following:

Precision 300 Connect at 175.97 pm, 2111.64 pa versus 215.56 / 2063.50 pa for 2A+2C.

The Precision 300 Connect is cheaper at 794.10 adult / 230.98 child, but it's not giving me the second child free?

The excesses are a bit higher, 125 vs 100 for day case, 300 vs 250 for overnights.

I welcome any advice.
