Health Insurance Laya Connect Care 150 - alternative wanted

57 year old male here,

I've just got my renewal from Laya for their Connect Care 150 policy.

For one individual: the monthly cost has gone from €205.18 to €260.03
So €3120 per annum.


These are the annual costs of this policy over the past few years
Year 2022 €1723
Year 2023 €1972
Year 2024 €2462
An 81% increase since 2022


I'm looking for a better alternative.
I do like that Laya has...
50% back for GP/Consultants​
Good dental care​
That I can access Beacon/Blackrock Clinic​

I've tried using the HIA comparison tool but its driving me demented.

Can anyone suggest a suitable plan for my wallet, my age, ease of treatment.
 
Hi,

There are some previous AAM but dated posts on this plan here. This particular thread has some excellent posts from Riomhaire on the details of the plan. Some of the cover may have changed in the meantime so probably best to check with Laya about that. That policy does appear to cover ortho/ophth at full cover so that aspect is good.

Probably best overall to discuss your options with Laya letting them know your preferences and budget. These days though the policy might have increased in price by the time you finish the call :p

Agree with ya on the HIA website :(
 
What does Specified Orthopaedic & Ophthalmic Procedures: 20% shortfall actually mean? I presume 80% of the cost for a hip/knee replacement is paid by the insurer.

Is difficult to make an informed choice between plans without knowing the likely cost of orthopaedic procedures.

How much would these operations typically cost?

Yes, I think what you mention there is correct as that's what a relative had to pay a while back.

It obviously would depend on where the treatment is done as hospitals/clinics/surgeon prices differ. Knee/hip would also differ a lot.

Some plans have a €2000 excess for orthopaedic procedures.
Is there a list anywhere?
The HIA comparison tool doesn't filter on this.
