Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows a place on the southside of Dublin that might sharpen a lawn mower blade? I have a petrol engine mower, no idea what the technical term for the type of mower, standard oen though, like a helicopter blade. I want to get it sharpened and perhaps get the engine serviced as I never add oil or look after it properly. Thanks.

The Garden shop in Cabinteely, Hills Hire Centre (Cabinteely) are two of the most likely candidates

There is a place on Trees Rd., Mt. Merrion which is supposed to be very good

Southside Mowers 109 Trees rd Mount Merrion Co Dublin (01)2884934

We have used this guy and he is very good

Name: K.C.R. Lawnmowers Categories: Garden Services/Garden Tools & Equipment Address: Unit 14 K.C.R. Industrial Estate, Kimmage, Co. Dublin Phone: (01) 4909546

Used Southside myself and hes a good lad.
Its at the very top of trees rd, beside a group of shops and near the park.

Guys

have an old cylinder blade mower. want to know where I can get the blades sharpened or can I do it myself with a grinder? have heard that it might require specialist because of blade angle etc but would like to know either way.Any advice would be appreciated.

regards

Cylinder heads need to be ground at the correct angle and the bottom blade will need to be adjusted to give a clean cut.

Normally this is done by 'backlapping'. Blades are spun in reverse with a grinding paste on the blades. Depending on the model of mower this may or may not be possible.

I would leave it in to be done properly with a professional. You could speak with a local greenkeeper who may do it for you.
