Has anybody heard of a "Land Contract", or "Contract for Deed"?

I have been told that these are fairly common in USA.
Whereby the buyer basically buys the property in installments.
When the last payment has been made, the sellers signs over the deed.
I supppose it's bascially the same thing as Rent To Buy.
Which insofar as I am aware, is fairly rare here.
