You might be dissapointed to note that our views are not that far apart.

I'd agree that WS/surround sound does offer benefits for watching DVD's. If you watch a lot of DVD's, then it may well be your best choice. If you watch a lot of Sky sports, then WS may well be you best choice.

Most people I know don't - they spend most of their time watching the Simpsons & Eastenders & Inspector Morse. My little one-man campaign is really aimed at ensuring that people understand they will get no benefit (and indeed some pain) from their WS/surround sound system when watching most terrestrial TV programs today.

Just a point on surround sound not being available for eastenders and the likes, nearly all surround sound systems now have dolby pro logic which can convert normal 2 channel sound from any programme into 5.1 surround sound. It's obviously not as good as programmes which have been recorded in 5.1, but it ain't bad.
