Could I ask posters what they think of the above term? In the light of developments on our roads where innocent people cannot go about their lawful business without having their lives imperiled by certain criminal elements, I find it offensive. I'd like to see it banned across this and other sites like swear-words, and that a swear-filter type interceptor be built to replace the text with something more appropriate, like "criminal death-driving". We wouldn't even need a lend of Seánín not-so-canny's AI.

"Joy" - I cannot see it, not in the activity itself nor its consequences

It is a dumb term. I grew up in Cabra in Dublin where for at least one Summer, if not two, stolen cars and 'joy-riding' was a near nightly occurrence.

Back then, the term 'joy-riding' was frowned upon too and politicians and media commentators suggested a plethora of other terms, such as 'death-driving'.
None of them stuck because ultimately it is the language of the perpetrators that provide the label of what it is they are doing from their perspective, the media inform, and the rest of us adopt it.

Crack-Speed-Trip-Joint-Spliff etc, are all terms that emanate from the participators of drug use.
