Hi
I just got married recently and wondering how do I go about working out whether it is best to stay taxed as separate individuals or go jointly as a couple. I haven't spoke to tax office yet but just wondering if I could get some advice first.
Appreciate any help or guidance

Thanks

I am not aware of any situation where a couple can be better off singly assessed. In fact, such a situation would've unconstitutional.

Ok thanks. How do you decide which of the couple take the full tax for best benefit. Is it the higher or lower earner etc

Both are on the higher tax rate but one salary is higher than the other.

For a married couple with two incomes, one can earn €41,800 and the other €23,800 before you go to the higher rate of tax.

How you decide who takes what is up to you. Lot's of couples don't do anything as they still see their earned money as their own and don't want to give up tax credits to their better half.
