Joint assessment PAYE From-11

Hello Experts,

I'm new to Ireland and its tax system. I've to fill Form-11for 2021 tax return because of below reason:

1. Over €5000 non-PAYE income
2. SARP relief

Surprisingly, without adding non-PAYE income and SARP relief, the calculated tax shows, I've to pay additional tax(total liability) for some reason. AFAIK, I don't have to claim for Employee Tax Credit(€1650x2) in form-11 as me & spouse both are PAYE employees and it should have already been considered during tax deduction in 2021 via employer as directed by Revenue.

Queries:
1. Could this be because of multiple employment of spouse in a tax year, and there is a credit miss-match?
2. Shall I include Employee Tax Credit now for both of us while filing Form-11?
3. I wonder why Personal Tax Credit (€3300) for joint assessment, was considered in calculation, isn't that also part of tax deduction in 2021 via employer as directed by Revenue?
4. What are the consequence of filing wrong Form-11? Are there any penalties?

TIA

Hi, as it is your first year their is merit in getting a tax advisor to file the return to be sure it is done right.
If one partner has a number of employments in the year it is not unusual for the tax at source to be wrong especially is some employments overlapped or credit bands where split oddly. The form 11 should have all income and credits listed. So don't consider what your employer already did as case closed but consider this form as ensuring what they did is right. Also depending on if SARP was dealt with a payroll will impact on how the form is completed.

Yes, tick that box for both of you if you both had PAYE income

4. What are the consequence of filing wrong Form-11? Are there any penalties?

There are penalties for deliberate false information. However, the form can easily be amended by you online if you discover an error or have (say) medical expenses to add to the form.

Thanks so much Philip for your input. So if i understand you correctly, I shouldn’t select employee tax credit for both of us as it should have been already considered, correct?

Hey Gervan,

Thanks for looking into this. So I can select employee tax credit in form-11 though it was already considered in payroll?

Yes.
As Philip S said The form 11 should have all income and credits listed. So don't consider what your employer already did as case closed but consider this form as ensuring what they did is right. Meaning on Form 11 you have to enter the PAYE tax credits you are entitled to. Your employer may not have known all your circumstances.
