Hi All

I am married for several years and myself and my wife are jointly assessed for tax but we have our own separate financial accounts and pay half of all the bills etc . She is a public servant and i am in the private sector

I pay large AVC's every month and i was wondering because we are jointly assessed for tax, does she receive some of my tax relief for these ? Also when i submit medical expenses would she receive half the tax relief ?

This is not a negative situation for us by the way, we are much happier with seperate finances but we both want to make sure its 100% fair also

I earn around 80k and she earns around 60k

Thanks for any help

Any AVC made out of your monthly payroll: you're getting the benefit.

Any annual tax refund: it's going into 1 bank account. Assume it's your joint account. If all of the refund relates to medical expenses paid by you, then you should get the refund.

Probably not worth falling out over!
