I am 6 months into claiming Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit.

I am looking to take a break for approx 7/8 weeks for various personal reasons. The operational guidelines state :-

Breaks in a Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit Claim

A person may break their Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit claim for up to 13 weeks and resume where they left off from the previous claim.

Is this as straightforward as just e-mailing my local Intreo Centre with the respective dates? Do I need to state a reason?

Has anyone any experience of doing this and is there anything to watch out for?

Thanks

It’s not as simple as it sounds. We went to the intreo office yesterday to do just that. 7 week break planned.
2 weeks holidays which is fine.

Hubby quoted the exact text above. (Citizens information website) Was told no.

The exact rules allow a break of up to 13 weeks if you are going abroad to look for work and are signed on there. We are going on an extended holiday and of course hubby is not signing on. Hes not looking for the cash just didn’t want to have to restart his claim when we return. But no dice. Will have to start again when we get back, he's only 6 weeks into his claim so he’ll have a few more at the top rate to claim.

This was dun Laoghaire. I don’t know if you had a a different experience

It might be that he said that we’d be abroad. Anyway the official was pretty adamant. Not in writing.

However when we get back we’ll see how it work out. Hopefully it’ll be just picked up as they’ve got all the records etc.
