Jobseekers benefit to illness benefit

Made redundant last year after 35 years with company , now on jb past 6 months but struggling to get new job and will only qualify for jb for 9 months due to wife working ,feeling depressed and friends recommend going to doctor and taking a few months off job hunting . Is it straightforward to go from jb to illness benefit and hopefully go back to remaining JB after a few months ?

It’s mental health related unfortunately, I will be 7 months on jobseekers benefit at this stage but my doctor thinks I should go on illness benefit as I’m not up to working at present … and go back on job seekers when I’m feeling better

Is it straightforward to go from jb to illness benefit and hopefully go back to remaining JB after a few months

I did this a few years ago except that by the time that the IB payment ran its course I no longer met the PRSI contribution qualification criteria for JB again so didn't qualify for any further benefit payments.
