Hi all,

I have two requests for information.

My garden is approx 30 foot square. In one corner, I would like to put a japanese maple. I would appreciate some advice on variety. I want something that will grow to no more than 15 foot tall with no more than 8 foot spread.

Also, I would like to plant bamboo along the back fence. I understand the issues with controlling it's spread and i'm prepared for the work. I would like a variety of bamboo that grows to no more than 8 foot. Any ideas?

Thanks

not an expert gardener but i'd think it would take years for a Maple of any variety to grow to 15 feet,
lovely tree tho the Japanese Maple

In my experience, if your garden is windy the maple won't like it. Make sure it's planted somewhere sheltered from the wind or the leaves will shrivel.

Thanks for the replies.

Where I want to plant the tree is fairly sheltered. I was looking for a particular variety that won't take over my garden. The height isn't really the issue but the width is.

Also, does anyone have any idea on the bamboo front.

Thanks

what we did is planted a few different varieties, the nicest of which is the black bamboo which doesnt grow as quickly as the others

Try Acer Palmatum Dissectum Atropurpurea Nana.

Beautiful cut leaf, wine red, small size. Exquisite:)
