IT Programming Nixers

Hi all,

I work as a Software Developer for a company on a 3-day week basis - it suits me perfectly to have the 2 days off. However, I would love to get some nixers, website development etc, that I could work on a few evenings a week. The problem is I don't know where to look to get work - recruitment agencies don't tend to deal with part-time, work-from-home options. Have also had a look at Nixers.com but it seems to be all permament posts too. Has anyone any suggestions? I have broad development experience and about 7 years under my belt.

Thanks,

Kimkim

Software Development nixers is not really a developed market. In my experience, there is no place to look for this type of work as no such place exits. The only that I could see you getting work like this is through personal contacts or with say a small web authoring company that might need bespoke scripts for clients etc.

There are others, like rentacoder etc.

There's a huge nixers market. Be prepared to compete with cheaper eastern European and Asian workers.

As someone who has to use outsourcing as part of his job, I very rarely choose the cheaper guys, so hopefully you shouldn't have to compromise on price too much!

Would prefer to have a contact with a company based here, but will check out those sites anyway. Thanks for the info.

Hi Kimkim
I sent you a PM message that might be of interest. Get back to me if you want to talk further. Cheers.

I don't think you can really compete with the global freelancing sites. They will work literally for nothing, and some of them are excellent. As the others have said you best route is networking and word of mouth from other companies. Web companies are a good route, as they go in to build a website but often get other work thrown at them they they are not able to do. If I were you I'd put my name about the local web companies and see if any work comes your way.
