Hi, I live on an island. I'm a homecarer my husband works. A few people have mentioned to me lately that we are lucky to live on an island as we are exempt from paying income tax! This was news to me. I have tried to find information about this but haven't found anything on the revenue.ie website or on citizens advice.

Does anyone know if this is just an urban (island) myth.

One person who mentioned it to me said that Charlie Haughey brought it in when he was taoiseach.

Not that crazy it appears

The linked document is merely a proposal made to the Commission of Taxation by a vested interes. It has not been adopted in any manner or form by the government and as such has no relevance to actual tax practice unless it is adopted.
