Is this good value for a kitchen or should I still go to ikea

I have had a quote for a kitchen. The kitchen consists of:


white high gloss units with silver handles and soft close doors.
The kitchen is 14 ft long and I have units at high and low level from one wall to the next apart from the cooker and dishwasher. Under my window I have another press and washing machine beside it. The is also an island which is 1.2metres in length, has a large double press and room to sit two people. I have the appliances already so they are not included in the price but am replacing the sink and tap for a 1 and a half sink silver sink and pretty standard tap. The worktops at the units and island are solid oak. After some bargaining I got a price of 3500 for the lot. I thought this was very good. Just looking for another opinion from the clever folk out there!
 
well I tried to tackle the ikea planner and it just wasn't for me, I couldn't make head nor tale of it after a few attempts! As far as I know ikea kitchens are made to fit their appliances and I can't afford new ones as mine are only 2 years old. And with paying for delivery to dublin I'm thinking the above is the better option. I could be wrong though....
 
No, appliances are all roughly the same, standard 600mm. I got an ikea kitchen and all the appliances were my own. I wouldn't bother with delivery from the U.K., go with ballymun if you do decide to go with Ikea, they are opening in the summer.
Sounds like you like your current option and are just worried about whether your getting a good deal. Well, it sounds very good to me and you're supporting Irish jobs.
 
DeeDee, out of interest which company gave you that quote?
I'm on the lookout for a new kitchen myself.
 
It was Homebase. I booked an appointment and the guy spent about 2 hours going through the design with me. I said I wanted a nice kitchen that wouldn't cost the earth and he was very helpful in that respect. The range I am looking at is called Monza on their website and I think its really nice. If it was the case that I could go to ikea and get a similar kitchen for half the price then I would, but if there was only say 500 euro in the difference then I would rather buy in Dublin.

Maybe you can price a standard base or wall unit with your preferred style of door/handle on the ikea website and see if that is a good price compared to a standard unit from Homebase (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/10470/). At least that will give you some idea.

(Or you could get a sympathetic friend or relative to figure out the Ikea planner for you, it will give you an exact price for what you want)

you dont say if the price includes fitting or how big your window is or whether or not the appliances are integrated or not so without something to compare it to its difficult to say YES or NO without certainty. Homebase isnt Irish so profits dont stay here but that said solid oak worktop is expensive so make sure its well treated before installation and id take whatever quote you have around to a couple of places and im sure that like for like you'll get a better deal

no it doesn't include fitting. I'd say for that price if I got the fitting included I'd take the hand off them aswell. I have my own appliances and they are too big to be integrated so they will be framed in (if that makes sense). There is only one press under the window and I think that is 600mm and the washing machine is beside it.

Does anyone know how long an ikea kitchen takes to come in once you order it?
 
Right well I went home yesterday to try and tackle the ikea kitchen planner. Once I had my measurements correct I have to admit it wasn't as bad as I initially thought. I chose the white presses and handles that I think were the most similar to the hombase ones. All the cabinets I picked were pretty standard (no bells and whistles, just wanted to get an idea of cost). The kitchen I chose was not perfect as I was missing 2 fillers I would definitely have needed above the fridge and below the cooker, and also something to case the large boiler in the kitchen (I couldn't figure out these bits). I also didn't pick a sink and tap which were all in the homebase quote. The ikea island did have more drawers than the homebase one though. The price total I got was £2597 gbp. I presume that were I to get a quote for everything needed it would be nearer to the 3k and in my opinion it wasn't as nice looking as the homebase kitchen.

So there is no disputing that ikea is good value but I definitely feel that what homebase are offering is a great kitchen for the price!
 
Drop in to in-house some of there kitchens are 50% off and they now supply assembled kitchens. They do a good range of appliances, they even recommend fitters and give a rough estimate
