Is there no provision for paternity leave in Irish Employment Law.

I became aware of a foreign national working in a local supermarket (where he has worked for several years) whose wife has just given birth to twins.

They already have a three year old. Is he entitled to no time off at all?

Seems incredible in this day and age.
 
While there is no paternity leave your friend is entitled to parental leave as per this link in respect of his 3 children.

It is unpaid and his employer may make him postpone the leave for up to six months.
