Hi All,

My wife took 4 months unpaid off last year and using an online tax submission calculator it states that she is due a refund of 2.2k. How come she has overpaid her tax in the year and is entitled to this refund? I input her details from ROS employment summary tab for 2019 into this calculator and this is the result. I am just wondering if what drives this refund and how you are actually allowed to overpay tax?

Thanks

Is your wife a PAYE employee? If she took 4 months unpaid at the end of the tax year, she would have accumulated tax credits (and possibly standard rate cut off point depending on her salary) which remained unused and she would therefore be entitled to a refund. It's impossible to say if the refund amount is correct without knowing her gross salary, tax/usc/PRSI paid and her tax credits and standard rate cut off point.
