Hi all,
We have a rent allowance tenant. She has always been relaible and we havent had any problems with her and we're very grateful.

She is however now 2 weeks late with rent and is saying that there are delays on the health boards side, first with the snow and now with systems?? I've just had a casual look through the Welfare threads and dont see any mention of it which I'm sure there would be if it was true.

We have another property on rent allowance too and that has been paid no prob.

My husband is calling her again today for update. We dont want to rock the boat because we haven't had any problems but the mortgage has already come out and we really need the rent to lodge back into the account.

Any thoughts??

Why don't you telephone the Health Board in your area or the CWO and ask them? You also need to build up a fund in your rental account to cover unforeseen eventualities. At least 3 months mortgage.

Thanks Bronte, tried ringing them earlier. Will try again after lunch.
We're lucky enough in that we have a reserve put by for situations like this but I'm still a bit worried that she's maybe going to finish up and leave. As I said its not like her. We'd be sorry if she left. We have been good landlords to her too, she is never left waiting if anything needs to be done. I was half hoping there was a glitch on social welfare systems.
I think BOI have all the glitches though!

There were delays to postal deliveries in some areas of the country over the past couple of weeks, and this affected delivery of SW cheques too.

The Bank of Ireland technology problems of early last week delayed a very small number of SW EFT payments - but only by 1 day.

There have been no problems with the computer system that issues payment of Rent Supplements.

Assuming you resolve this glitch, you may try and persuade her to get RS paid direct to you. Slim

There has been massive delays in post reaching people outside of Dublin, it took me a week to get a letter to a local area in Co Wexford and this was when the bad snow came

There also have been issues in some post offices relating to their computer systems and these offices were closed and also when open massive Qs so it is possible the lady is telling the truth

While she may be telling the truth that its delayed its not really your problem.
She will have to go and get the money from someone else. She is borrowing your money and its costing you and im guessing she didnt even ask! you were just told that you were not getting your money. That rent could be already be paying off some debt that you have which you are paying interest on. Its desperate times but don't be fooled like I was and lost 100's of euros by being a nice Guy!

People on rent allowance who have a good history should be given some slack. They don't, in general, have any fall back money in cases where the 'system' doesn't pay them.
