Is Online banking really faster than writing cheques - Ulsterbank Transfer to rabo

Ok so I decided to shift some money from Ulsterbank to rabodirect with the idea of moving into my first investment portfolio.
So I rang to set up third part transfers from Ulster Bank Anytime, and fair enough the money left my Ulster Bank Account immediately. This is Day three and it hasn't arrived in My Rabo account. I know they said it would take three days, but why??
I considered money mover with Rabo but they said that would take seven days, and I'm not very patient. So should I just have wrote a cheque to Rabo??
 
It's hit & miss with Ulster Bank.

I transfer money from my Ulster Bank current account to RaboDirect every month, usually the money is with Rabo next day, however on two occasions I have experienced a transfer taking 3 days and one five days. When I phoned up to find out why it the money had not shown up, the answer you get is "well it's gone out of your account, we've done our part of the process"
