brokers usually more expenisve because they have to get their fee from the deal. online seems to be the cheapest way for everything these days..... that said ive gone to a broker a few times and gotten as good as online and had the benefit of talking to a real and in my case competent and experienced broker

Actually Broker commissions are often built into providers standard set of rates so they will not necessarily work out dearer.

The main advantage of going to a broker is that they shop around for you and get you the best price for the product you are looking for and can answer any questions you may have related to those products.
