Is it a good time to fix?

We have an outstanding mortgage of 223,000 with 23 years left. Currently with Haven on 3.05% variable rate.

We are considering fixing for 5 years now on 2.55% with Haven. Is it a good time to do so?

We couldnt move banks before now as I was on probation (off since april 1st). Doubt if its worth it for a slightly better rate.

Im also a little worried that one or other of us will be out of work next January. My contract is up and cant be renewed. We have no other loans and a 15K emergency fund.
