Is interest expense allowable on overseas fund investments?

I have incurred interest in Ireland for a private loan used to purchase a material interest in an overseas fund. Is that interest in any way allowable against interest income received from the overseas fund?
The private lender of the loan would be declaring the interest income as Irish interest income without tax withheld.
