Is anyone cutting grass yet?

As the weather seems a bit milder I was wondering if its a good time to start cutting the grass now and feed and weeding it? Has anyone else started or do you think I should wait till March?

No way I'm starting cutting until there is some visible growth - which I don't have yet. Based on last year, I'm reckoning mid to end of March.
 
It all depends on whether or not the grass is actively growing or not and the level of dampness of the ground. The ground needs to have recovered from recent snow etc .so a lot depends on local conditions when it comes to mowing. I wouldn't use feed or weed killers for another month.
 
Thanks, it has grown a little but not much so guess I will wait, spring won't come quick enough the garden looks tired and boring.

Other than some Asian countries (and maybe a couple of others) it's Spring in Ireland only.

According to meteorologists generally, the rest of Europe almost totally, and most of the rest of the northern hemisphere, Spring is Mar/Apr/May.
 
I started yesterday. It was suprisingly thicker than it looked.
 
You could cut it high just to tidy it up romove the leaves etc.. Its too early to start feeding it. You'd be only wasting money.

Met Éireann issued Seasonal revisionism information a couple of years ago, based on the fact Dec - Feb are generally the coldest and Jun - Aug generally the warmest they stated Spring should actually be concidered Mar - May, Summer Jun -Aug, Autumn Sep - Nov and Winter Dec - Feb.

But back to your question, I was thinking about tacking mine on Wednesday morning due to the fact it looks awful and I'm hoping there has been some drying over the recent respite from the rain and snow.
 
Don't cut yet: grass is too weak and cutting now could cause further weakness. If weather is average for the time of year for the next few weeks, you could start with a light cut around St Patrick's day. A light cut would be one or two notches above your normal level in the summer.

Start feed/weed/moss killer first week of April, then feed every six weeks therefater.
 
As the trade union representing all Irish grass, we strongly object to all cut backs in this field!
 
Well the good weather got me out yesterday. Raked all the debris (after the snow) off the lawn and found way too much moss. I applied a lawn tonic and moss killer; so in two weeks time I'll be out there scarifying the whole lawn. It looks a bit black today but once I get rid of all the dead moss, apply a top dressing and some grass seed it should look ok. But to get back to the original question; no, I haven't actually cut the grass yet!

Slash, I am not sure you're username suits you. You seems like a gentler soul...
 
for many years i have been afraid to scarify the lawn in case it looked terrible and would not recover. There is now a thick thatch with little grass. Ophelia what has been your experience of scarifyiine?ng.Did you hire out a machine?
 
dewdrop, the only solution to get rid of a thick thatch is to scarify the whole area. It will look a bit bleak for a few weeks but then when you feed and renew any bare patches with grass seed the whole lawn will look great. I do it every year and I don't hire any machine - I just get a rake at it and alot of elbow grease.
 
I was told you generally don't need to cut it between Halloween and St Patrick's Day
