Apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search but didn’t find anything relevant. Here are my details:

I’m 34, worked in Ireland for 1 year, been working outside the EU for over 12 years, currently no pension plan, pensions are worthless in my country of residence, married, 1 kid, no plan to return to Ireland in the coming years but hope to within 10 years, I stopped paying my contributions when I left Ireland:

Question :

  • Should I pay a lump sum to get my contributions up to date?
  • Should I start a non state pension?

Any advise greatly received, my knowledge on pensions is close to “0”.

Thanks,

You could ask the relevant authority, in the country that you work in, whether it is possible for them to grant you a tax credit for pension contributions made in Ireland.

If they would do this them a PRSA would be the most suitable product for you here.
