Irish Independent article, 20th September 2025. Revenue takes it easy when taxing pensioners.

Or, more accurately, individuals aged over 66 are liable for PRSI if they opt to keep working and don't apply for the State Contributory Pension.
Pension, unearned, and employment income remains liable to class M or class J beyond COAP claim age and beyond age 70.

People remain liable to Prsi until their death.

Are you of the opinion that full rate class A and class S should be applied to people over COAP claim age or over age 70 ?

As you have said multiple times before many pensioners, including yourself are wealthy and can easily afford to pay.

Either PRSI should be scrapped as it is in effect a tax.

Or if it's a form of social insurance, the benefit should be directly linked to the contribution.

The fact that is grossly unfair doesn't make it "not a tax".

Brendan

Revenue are applying stealth increases when taxing pensioners.

Only if you believe that the Office of the Revenue Commissioners is the entity that decides national taxation policy.

No, like @Brendan Burgess I am aware that the government decide tax rules.

Revenue applies the laws set by the government. So it has really been the policy of successive governments.

First, why did you quote Brendan and selectively quote me in your previous post, without adding any comment? I assume that it was a tacit admission that we were both correct - as indeed we were!

But, like most wealthy pensioners, I'm allergic to paying any form of tax. So I am not of the opinion that full rate class A and class S should be applied to people over COAP claim age or over age 70.

Howver, I firmly believe that the Centenarian's Bounty should be taxable and liable to PRSI and USC. (Just in case you wanted to ask me about that.)

I know you are joking IF for some reason they had to add PRSI and USC the bounty would be Increased to cover PRSI and USC and ;) existing tax payers would pay the handeling fees,;)
