Investment as a baby gift?

Hi all,

I'm at an age where lots of my friends are starting to have babies.

I have purchased prize bonds as gifts a few times, but was wondering about something a little more interesting or unique.

Is there any investment product that can be purchased as a gift? e.g. €50 on some index fund.

I obviously don't want the hassle of opening an account for the baby, or annual fees etc.
Do bearer bonds or similar instruments still exist?

Any other suggestions for something along these lines?

In the US it is possible to give stock efficiently with Sparkgift but its unavailable here. I think there are some US companies willing to make paper share certs as gifts for Irish residents but maybe half of the cost will be on fees.

HI CorkGuy

It's a brilliant idea. If you invest €50 in a fund today it increases in value by 5% a year, it would be worth €120 by age 18. That might encourage an understanding of the stock market.

I imagine that the costs of compliance would make it almost impossible for a investment company to offer that product.

It would probably have to be an absolute minimum of €1,000
