Have upgraded to IE7 a few week ago. However it keeps giving me an error message after I close the internet even though it operates OK before that. I am currently using O2 broadband.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is??

The text of an error message sometimes gives a clue as to what the problem is. What is the error message and the title of the dialogue box that displays it?

Just the message that the computer has encountered a problem and needs to close

When you say 'close the internet', do you mean 'close Internet Explorer'? Does the message say which program has encountered a problem? For example 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close'? It sounds like the Internet Explorer program is crashing and this could be due to some part of it being corrupt, a faulty plug-in or possibly a Trojan of some kind. Try setting your home page to blank and see if the error happens if you don't visit any page. Are you up to date with the various Windows update patches and also with anti-virus?

What addins, extra toolbars etc have you installed.

Don't have any add-ons as far I as know. Just brought everything from my previous version of Internet Explorer. The new update was working well for a while but now is coming up with this message. I am currently subscribing to McAfee so virusguard is up to date.

When I tried to go onto Youtube this evening, the Internet explorer shut down giving something some that there was a Flash9l.ocx problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the flash player but this has not made any difference.

I am a complete novice on this kind of thing so any suggestions are appreciated.

Get somebody with experience in such matters to look at your machine. Trying to diagnose such problems at a distance in the presence of partial or inaccurate info is simply too error prone/difficult.

Disable the flash player add-in in IE7 and only turn it on when you require it. Then turn it back off.
When you are looking at site that require flash player, only have one tab open in IE7

or

install firefox and use that instead (disclaimer : I've never had a problem with firefox and flash but I can't say for certain that your problem will go away)

Thanks for those options. I will get back to you to let you know how I got on.
