Have oak internal wood doors with top glass panels which were varnished with a dark colour varnish. Was thinking of painting them off-white but cant find photos anywhere to see what they might look like. What might they look like painted? Anybody done this before?

I painted all my internal doors apple white last year & i regret it. I'm currently looking to strip back to bare wood.

If you are unsure then leave good enough alone or just try painiting one door first & sit on the result for a few months to see if it sits well with you.

Do you have glass in your doors as well? Why do you not like them painted? Were they solid wood doors originally? I am just worrying striping back doors is an awful job that might not look right as the stain might be gone through the grain at this stage!!!!

I painted 2 sets of double-doors last year and much prefer them white. They were cheap looking wood and look better white, but the restof my doors were already white so they fit in better now.
It's a fiddly time consuming job though.

Would you consider just painting the architraves and skirting boards in a nice off white and leaving the doors as they are. This is what I have just done and it looks great as well as providing a nice contrast with the woood, it brightens up the whole look of the house.

Then you could also sugar soap and clean the wooden doors which will also brighten them up.

I just hate the dark wood stain............. Has anybody ever seen single internal doors with 2 panel glass on top painted offwhite or any colour for that matter. Have looked on line at photos (millions of photos but none of what I'm thinking of doing) Just don't want them to look like they should never have been painted off-white!!
