What is the real difference between these 2 depths other than cost and loss of space?

Also for the cost involved if possible always max out on insulation it is not always corrected easily at a later stage:mad:

Whats the difference in Uvalue?
The U-Value is calculated through the whole build up.
So you have to take account of everything, working from the outside …..

Render/Block/Insulation/Finish

Always go for as much insulation as you can afford or fit in the room. Also make sure the trades install it correctly and the following trades (plumbers/Sparks) don't tear lumps out of it for running cables or pipes.

If you can, leave a service cavity behind it before fitting. Have all your cable and pipe runs done and fixed to the wall, batten out and then fix the insulation.

Thanks Kceire.Windows and doors have a specific U-Vvalue so I thougt the same would apply to each grade of insulation

You'll get technical details of the thermal conductivity for each product, but u-value needs to look at whole construction.
If you contact the manufacturer (or even search their website), they'll have technical details, and might have calculated u-value for common building types. Not the easiest things to understand!
